Peru President: OAS EOM to verify parliamentary elections transparency

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed the Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) —to be sent by the Organization of American States (OAS) to Peru— will verify the honesty and transparency of the parliamentary elections scheduled for January 26, 2020.

In this sense, the Head of State recalled Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra recently held a meeting with OAS Secretary-General Luis Almagro, in which the organization confirmed it will send a delegation.

Likewise, he mentioned the Peruvian diplomat met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, adding the international organizations observe with calm and trust what happens in Peru.

"Because they see everything is being complied with and the regulations, as well as the Constitution, are being respected," the top official expressed.

Constitutional Court

Concerning the Constitutional Court plenary session, he explained each institution must play its role and carry out their tasks with responsibility.
