Peru: President, ministers join "Promises on plastic"

13:10 | Lima, Dec. 10.

Before Peru's participation at the 25th UN Climate Change Conference (COP25), President Martin Vizcarra and cabinet members signed their "Promises on plastic," so that the world would know about the Government's commitment to the elimination of single-use plastic and its fight against climate change.

The Head of State and ministers wrote on a plastic bag —which takes about 400 years to decompose— their commitments to take concrete actions aimed at facing global warming and ensuring the population's well-being.

The Ministry of Environment (Minam) said that one year after enacting the Plastic Law, the Peruvian State assumes "Promises on plastic" and reminds us that we can all fight climate change.

"There is no small effort. Together, we will achieve it. #TiempoDeActuar (Time To Act)," is the message posted by Minam on Twitter.

"That is why we are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 35% by 2030 (…)," Muñoz said during her participation in the NDC Partnership's Annual Members Forum.

With 160+ members, the NDC Partnership is open to countries and organizations that are committed to ambitious implementation of nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
