Peru President highlights historical export record of 732 products

14:30 | Lima, Feb. 20.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday highlighted the historical export record of 732 Peruvian products linked to fishing and agro-export sectors, set in 2019.

During the presentation of export figures, which last year surpassed US$45.978 billion, the Head of State reported that non-traditional exports amounted to US$13.791 billion, registering a growth of 4.1%.

"In a context characterized by uncertainty and tensions in the global scenario, our products, mainly the fishing and agro-export ones, reached 177 markets around the globe (…)," the statesman stated.

"A total of 732 products have set a new historical export record. Grapes, blueberries, avocados, giant squid, mangoes, among others, are the new leaders," he added.

Mr. Vizcarra explained that, thanks to last year's exports, Peru has become the world's largest exporter of blueberries and asparagus, as well as the second largest of tangerines, giant squid, and Peruvian scallops.

Likewise, he underlined that today, Peruvian production is more decentralized than in the past, since seven regions achieved a historical export record.

"It is nice to see that Peruvians, as well as Piura, Ica, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Ancash, Ayacucho, and Pasco —through their producers— have improved their exports significantly," he continued.

In this sense, he explained Peru's economic growth and development prospects are "clear and promising." Therefore, this year, "Peru will be one of the fastest growing countries in the region again."
