Peru’s President Ollanta Humala led on Tuesday the ceremony marking the 136th Anniversary of the Battle of Arica and the Renewal of the Oath of Fidelity to the National Flag.

The event was attended by President of the Council of Ministers Pedro Cateriano, along with Ministers of Defense Jakke Valakivi; and Interior Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe, among other top civil and military authorities.

After raising the national flag and placing a floral wreath, Peru's Military Bishopric Monsignor Carlos Vera Plasencia presided over a liturgical act.

The Oath of Fidelity to the Flag took place afterwards.

The official act is held every June 7th and serves as means to commemorate Peruvian soldiers, who fought and died defending our homeland and national integrity during the Pacific War.

The ceremony took place at Lima's Bolognesi Square.
