Peru President: Differentiated entry hours must be established for workers

15:12 | Lima, May. 25.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday said that public and private sectors must establish differentiated entry times for workers who will return to their workplaces as part of the economic reactivation measures included in the supreme decree, which extends the state of emergency in Peru until June 30.

The Head of State recalled that said decree allows the return of a percentage of public sector workers due to the need to reactivate national projects that had been paralyzed. In this sense, he stressed, the process will be carried out without risks.

The statesman informed that the Ministry of Transport and Communications will coordinate in Lima —as in various cities of the country— the establishment of differentiated schedules.

"Not everyone can arrive at work at 8.00 a.m. If so, we are going to have crowds at bus stops, which is where we have seen one of the sources of covid-19 infection for people," he expressed.

In this sense, the top official suggested the private and public sector to establish differentiated entry hours, adding that "those —who have to attend in person and cannot telework— must arrive at 7.00 a.m., others at 9.00 a.m., and (the remainder of workers at) 11.00 a.m."

"This way, the departure will be sequential, thus avoiding crowds at bus stops. That is fundamental," he stated.

The President also said that this measure should be part of the new social coexistence in the country in order to combat the pandemic.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the social isolation measure has been extended until June 30.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Monday marks the seventy-first day of mandatory social isolation.
