13:15 | Plateria (Puno region), Mar. 24.
The
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday confirmed that he will attend the Congress' plenary session for the debate on the
presidential impeachment motion presented by a group of parliamentarians on March 8.
"We will be in Congress next week to attend a summon, a call, to reply on what the Peruvian people are led to believe," he said at a meeting with locals in the district of Plateria, Puno region.
The Head of State also affirmed that, starting tomorrow, a destructive campaign against the Government will take place until the weekend, including the dissemination of messages, set-ups, audios, and videos by a sector of the press.
Nevertheless, the dignitary said he is sure Parliament will not succumb to it.
"There are legislators who are highly responsible, who do understand
the people's needs, and they will not succumb to this type of blackmail or believe this media circle," he added.
Said media campaign, he said, coincides with claims from "some entrepreneurs who do not love the country" that the increase in the price of bread and chicken is the President's fault.
Mr. Castillo warned that the objective is to generate a crisis, so that there is a reason to proceed with the presidential impeachment process on Monday.
However, he said the Government remains committed to meeting the country's major needs, such as access to drinking water and drainage.
The country's top official remarked that "Peru cannot be stopped by a confrontation that has not been created by us."
Moreover, he reiterated his call to put polarization aside and conveyed greetings to the organizations, institutions, and political parties that will attend the
Agreement National meeting.
