The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday led the ceremony commemorating Armed Forces Day, which took place at Plaza de la Bandera (Flag Roundabout) in the city of Lima.

The event also saw the presence of Defense Minister Walter Ayala, Judiciary Chairwoman Elvia Barrios, as well as high authorities of the public administration and high-ranking officials of Peruvian armed institutions.

This commemorative act marked one more year since the celebration of Armed Forces Day was institutionalized, on September 24, 1977, by means of Supreme Decree No. 003-77-CC.FA.

On this day tribute is also paid to the Virgin of Mercy, after her honorary title of Grand Marshal and Patroness of Peru was made official. She is considered the spiritual guide of Peruvian soldiers.

On Armed Forces Day, the institution watching over the defense and security of the country is honored —an outstanding group that contributes with its actions to protecting and assisting citizens.
