After nearly seven months of follow-up, the Office of the Special Prosecutor for Illicit Drug-Trafficking Crimes of the Northwest Lima Prosecutorial District and the National Police of Peru seized 956 kilograms of high-purity cocaine hydrochloride in a clandestine camp in Cusco region.
Provincial Prosecutor Jorge Camargo, who was in charge of the mega-operation, pointed out that a group of people had arranged to transport the cocaine along bridle paths to a clandestine airstrip in Alto Picha, La Convencion Province (Cusco region), in order to send the drug to international markets via airplanes.
By order of the representative of the Public Ministry —on board three helicopters— the police members —also members of Los Sinchis de Mazamari— entered the area on April 8 to carry out a search and found 23 sacks containing 911 packages of drugs.
Concerning this fact, the prosecutor stated that the investigation will run its course to achieve the capture of those responsible, who could face a custodial sentence of between 15 and 25 years.
