Peru: Payment of hydrocarbon royalties up 66.8% in 1Q 2021

00:30 | Lima, Apr. 23.

The payment of royalties by companies operating in the hydrocarbon sector in Peru amounted to US$228 million at the end of 2021's first quarter —an amount greater by 66.8% if compared to the similar period of 2020.

This was indicated by the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) while explaining that the figure was higher than the US$137 million registered in the January-March period last year.

Within this framework, the guild commented that —in the first quarter of 2021— the evolution of royalties has been supported by an increase in international hydrocarbon prices.

Despite this, it indicated that the amount of royalties for oil production is still below pre-pandemic levels.

Likewise, the SNMPE explained that companies operating in the national hydrocarbon industry paid US$61.7 million in royalties last March, which meant an increase of 132% compared to the same month in 2020.

However, it explained that a 3.9% contraction was observed when comparing March royalties (US$61.7 million) with those reported last February.

The mining and energy guild also explained that hydrocarbon sector companies paid in royalties US$20.7 million last March (natural gas exploitation) and US$11.4 million (oil exploitation), as well as US$29.6 million for the production of liquid natural gas.
