Based in Lamas, Huayku native community will host Santa Rosa Raymi celebrations on August 19-31.
The city will celebrate "30th Tourism Week" and expects to welcome over 10,000 visitors, among tourists and indigenous citizens from other areas.
Indigenous families and local communities will participate in traditional and cultural activities, Huayku Mayor Toribio Amasifuen assured.
Furthermore, wearing traditional swimsuits, some women will take part in "Shipash Turismo" beauty contest. Being Quechua-speaker is requirement to join. The Shipash Tourism Queen will be chosen to represent the city during activities.
Food provision for tourists and communities will be in charge of locals at establishments called: "cabezones" (The ones with big heads). Dishes based on pork and hen, plus traditional beverages will be served, Amasifuen highlighted.
Furthermore, dances, competitions, cultural, literary, civic and religious events will be held on the occasion.
Kajada and Carachupas are native dances to be performed during celebrations, where colourful costumes usually stand out.
