12:31 | Tarapoto (San Martin region), Nov. 11.
San Martin reopens tourism under new normal. The rainforest region has launched a campaign to show visitors its beautiful natural attractions, which remained closed during the quarantine decreed by the Government in order to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru.
Now, Peruvians and foreigners planning to visit these places will be required to comply with biosafety protocols to avoid coronavirus contagion.
San Martin's Dircetur Head Milner Garcia reported that public access has been restored to Sauce Lake, as well as Ahuashiyacu and Pishurayacu Waterfalls, located in San Martin Province.
Other reopened destinations include Calzada Hill and El Tioyacu (Alto Mayo Province), as well as the Lamas Castle (Lamas Province), while Aguas Calientes in Soritor district, the Rio Abiseo National Park, and Tocache attractions will reopen in the coming days.
The regional official reported that, before reopening these sites, the administrators drew up a surveillance and health protocol plan —supported by Dircetur technicians— to be complied with when delivering different services, which shall be observed not only by visitors but also by workers in such establishments.
The above-mentioned destinations shall ensure the availability of hand wash sinks at the entrance, dispensers, the use of face masks, the implementation of social distancing measures, as well as the possession of certificates from institutions such as the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci), municipalities, among others. The same obligations shall be fulfilled by hotels and restaurants in each place.
