Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Camino and the
Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Mario Lubetkin, presided over the signing ceremony and presentation of the Country Programming Framework for Peru (2023-2026).
The deputy minister expressed his gratitude to the FAO for the cooperation it extends to Peru.
In this regard, he noted that this "Country Programming Framework has been an important tool to set the priorities of joint work, articulating the valuable support that the FAO provides based on the needs of our country."
Indeed, under this new Framework, the FAO will support national efforts to address the challenges faced by Peru regarding food security, family agriculture, adequate and healthy diet, as well as rural territorial development, inclusive and sustainable value chains, and increase in resilience of people and ecosystems.
Likewise, during the activity, both authorities highlighted the recent approval of a resolution for the celebration of the International Day of Potato, which recognizes the global importance of this crop, of which Peru is considered the main center of origin.
"This day will be celebrated at the national and international level every May 30, for which the Peruvian Government has been organizing, together with the FAO and the International Center of Potato, various events to raise the awareness about the contribution of this important tuber to food security and nutrition around the world," the government official pointed out.
