Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra on Tuesday met in Lima with
, who is currently visiting Peru.
The official will stay in the South American country from January 21 to February 3. During that time, he will be visiting Lima, Piura, Madre de Dios, Cusco, and Ucayali regions.
According to a release from the United Nations Office in Geneva, Forst aims to find out whether human rights defenders can promote and protect these rights in a safe and supportive environment in Peru.
Lastly, on February 3, the UN Special Rapporteur plans to offer his first conclusions at a press conference in the capital city as a preliminary step for producing a full report to be presented at the
UN Human Rights Council in March 2021.
