Peru: Expoalimentaria consolidated as Latin America's greatest food platform

Expoalimentaria fair consolidates as Latin America’s greatest food trading platform after having registered business commitments worth US$830 million during the past 2015 edition, Peru’s Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry announced.

According to the head of the portfolio Magali Silva, advisors at Peru’s Trade Offices (OCEX) based in Beijing, Bogota, Los Angeles, Miami, Sao Paulo, Santiago and Toronto lent their support on the occasion.

Likewise, they liaised with more than 100 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) selected by Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), which are related to the fisheries, manufacturing, services, garments and jewelry sectors. Many of them have received training through the Exporting Route program.

On the other hand, over 15 enterprises and producers partnerships participated in the Asia Fruit Logistica Fair held in Hong Kong on September 2-4. Peruvian enterprises generated business commitments worth over US$100 million.

This figure exceeds by more than 14% the amount negotiated in the 2014 edition.

According to Peru's Trade Office based in Shanghai, grapes particularly "Red Globe" were highly demanded by enterprises from China, Hong Kong and South Korea as were mangoes, citrus fruits and avocados. The latter are expected to become Asia’s new Peruvian star.
