Peru's President Ollanta Humala met with representatives of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and showed the interest of Peru in becoming part of this important forum based in Paris.
The OECD has today 34 member countries, which span the globe, from North and South America to Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
Humala said the government will improve education, health and infrastructure by joining this organization.
He also stressed that Peru has a sustained economic growth and friendly climate for investors.
"These are important as we think that the best tool for transformation is education. We want to enhance technology transfer and promote the scholarship program called Beca 18, which helps young people study at national universities and graduate programs abroad," Humala said.
The president added that education in Latin America has been an exclusion tool and his administration seeks to remove this barrier through social inclusion that will allow to help low-income people.
