Peruvian coffee will see sales worth US$70 million at the Global Specialty Coffee Expo 2017 fair taking place in Seattle (U.S.) on April 20-23, Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) projected.

"We are bringing close to 100 participants for this edition. They are producers and entrepreneurs who will showcase their products, as well as identify opportunities offered at the fair," PromPeru Exports Director Luis Torres told Andina news agency.

"Our sales expectations stand at US$70 million," he pointed out.

Inca participation is part of a strategy to mainly promote Peruvian "specialty coffees" which stand out for their quality.

"Basically, we are trying to consolidate [national coffee's] presence in the United States and Europe, as well as to make progress in the Asian market," Torres affirmed.

According to the official, Peruvian coffee has been gaining relevance worldwide thanks to its specialty varieties highly valued on international markets.

Lastly, Torres highlighted Peruvian coffee's cupping score stands above 85 points [on a scale of 1 to 100], "which is a difficult standard to reach."

Exports

Peruvian coffee exports totaled US$759 million in 2016, up by 25% from the previous year.

According to PromPeru's Agribusiness Department, the United States led the ranking by receiving 30% of total shipments.
