Students, workers, and locals have taken to the streets of downtown Lima to support the confidence motion recently presented by President Martin Vizcarra to Congress.

At the event, participants express their rejection of corruption cases implicating judicial institutions like the National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) and the Judicial Branch. Plus, they urge the reorganization of said institutions.

Last Sunday, President Vizcarra introduced a confidence motion to Congress and asked Parliament to approve the political-justice reform bills submitted by the Executive Branch, which are aimed at fighting corruption.

In this sense, the Head of State called for an extraordinary legislature session to address the matter on September 19, 2018.

According to the Head of State, the Congress' delay in approving the projects led his administration to introduce the aforementioned motion.

The Peruvian Constitution allows an acting President to close Congress and call for new legislative elections if Parliament dismisses two cabinets. The current Congress had already granted a no-confidence vote to a former cabinet.

Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva will attend Congress —joined by Cabinet members— to directly submit the confidence motion so it will be debated and assessed.
