19:18 | Lima, Jan. 11.

Peru's Central Reserve Bank (BCR) on Thursday presented the commemorative silver medal for Pope Francis' visit to the South American country this month.

There are 5,000 copies available, whose obverse shows Pope Francis along with the map of Peru, and the visit's motto known as "United for Hope."

On the reverse, there is the papal coat of arms above Pope Francis' quote that reads: "If sadness one day makes you an invitation, tell it that you are already committed to joy, and that you will be faithful to it your whole life."

According to Pedro de la Puente, Chairman of the Numismatic Society of Peru, the public will be able to buy this 37 mm diameter collectible medal via BCR's official website for S/126 (about US$39).

Within this context, he told RPP local news station it had been a common practice for Peru to mint coins on special occasions. The first one was issued in 1573 in honor of Archbishop Loayza.

Lastly, the expert pointed out commemorative silver coins in honor of Pope Leo XIII (1902) and Pope John XXIII (1960) can also be found at the museum.

As is known, Pope Francis will visit Peru on January 18-21.

His trip will include cities Lima, Puerto Maldonado, and Trujillo.
