Peru: Arequipa tourist flow to increase in 2015

El incremento del turismo en Arequipa incentiva la llegada de más cadenas hoteleras.

18:06 | Arequipa (Arequipa Region), Aug. 04.

Peru's Southern Arequipa Region is expected to reach a 10% increase in foreign tourist arrivals by the end of 2015.

The growth is attributed to the cultural, entrepreneurial, academic and political activities held in the Southern city, the Head of the Arequipa Region Foreign Trade and Tourism Office Alfredo Venero affirmed.

Last year, 250,000 foreign tourists arrived in the region. The figure is estimated to be added 25,000 more visitors by year-end.

The increase is given that Arequipa will host international meetings such as: the Perumin Mining convention (September), the XIII World Congress of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (November) and the First International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts World Congress (October), among others.

The said and other events are to gather visitors from around the world, many of whom will "get to know the city," especially since they will arrive accompanied by relatives and friends.

It must be noted a million Peruvian citizens visited the region last year. The figure is to expand by over 4% in 2015, Venero emphasized.
