The Economy and Finance Ministry (MEF) approved a foreign debt operation between the Republic of Peru and
the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) of up to US$16.8 million.
The initiative is intended to partially fund environmental projects in the Peruvian jungle.
The aim is to provide partial funding for the execution of the project "Improvement of support services for sustainable use of ecosystem biodiversity in the forest landscape along the
Tarapoto-Yurimaguas corridor in northern San Martin and Loreto regions."
In addition, these resources will support similar initiatives in the Puerto Maldonado-Iñapari corridor and within the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve in southeastern Madre de Dios region.
A third project to benefit from the funding includes the improvement of environmental information services for mapping deforestation in
Peruvian Amazon forests.
