Peru and Brazil strengthen bilateral ties

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra and Brazilian Vice-President Hamilton Mourão have reaffirmed their decision to strengthen the bilateral relationship in areas of common interest for the two countries.

The meeting was held on Thursday evening at the Government Palace, where the President was joined by Ministers Gustavo Meza-Cuadra (Foreign Affairs) and Walter Martos (Defense).

According to the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry, both authorities reiterated their willingness to strengthen the relationship in areas of common interest.

The development of border populations, security and defense cooperation, the fight against corruption, as well as economic integration and trade openness were discussed at the event.
 
Therefore, they agreed on the need to schedule a presidential meeting in the border area with the aim of deepening the ties towards a shared future.

Progress

President Vizcarra and Vice-President Mourão also noted the progress on the Action Plan of the Leticia Pact, which is in line with the Amazonian countries' commitment to territorial sovereignty and sustainable development.

Within this framework, they welcomed the restructuring process of the bilateral border integration mechanisms and the signing by both nations' Defense Ministries of a Declaration of Intent to strengthen cooperation in naval matters.

In addition, they assessed the options to increase connectivity, bilateral trade, and tourism with emphasis on those measures that benefit border regions.
