At the national level some 1.2 million tourists will travel inside the country during the National Holidays (July 28-29), Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva affirmed.
This will represent an "economic dynamism" worth US$103 million, she added.
According to the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry’s projection -based on data obtained in 2014 from land and ground transportation companies, as well as from other tourism sector related public and private entities- tourist flow will lead to an expansion by 8% compared to the same period last year.
Silva said this dynamism is the result of the promotional campaigns designed by Promperu (Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Board), through the platform "¿Y tú qué planes?" Those are aimed at boosting domestic tourism by promoting the diverse destinations offered by the country.
Tourism culture
"We are consolidating travel habits and tourism culture, and generating an economic impact on the regions due to a higher demand for the tourism services chain," the Minister pointed out.
According to a survey conducted by the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry, citizens primarily travel with the aim of visiting their families (50.1%) and for leisure purposes (25.2%), as well. Among the tourists' main activities are: Seeing landmarks and tasting local gastronomy.
In this framework, 99% are expected to be Peruvians and 1% are supposed to come from abroad.
Promotional campaigns
"PromPeru develops a strategy that embraces promotional campaigns in the most popular cities [such as Arequipa, Chiclayo, Lima, Huancayo, Piura and Trujillo] with the aim of increasing interregional travel, which range from one-day to weekend trips," Minister Silva said.
For these Holidays, the platform offers vacation-packages to many regions. Among those are: Amazonas, Ancash, Apurimac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Huancavelica, Junin, Lambayeque, Piura, Puno and Ucayali.
There are 267 travel proposals starting at: S/.170.00 (about US$53). More trips can be found on: www.ytuqueplanes.com web-site.
