The
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday affirmed that each region in the country will have a specialized hospital for the benefit of the population.
The Head of State also assured that the primary care level will be strengthened.
"By the end of my mandate, I will deliver specialized hospitals for each region, giving priority to mother and child care hospitals, the neoplastic hospital, the clinical-surgical hospital, the tropical medicine hospital, and the oral health hospital," Mr. Castillo pointed out.
Actions will be coordinated among all levels of government to provide further health care services to all Peruvians. For this reason, he called on "regional governors to prepare the documentation and locate the pieces of land where such hospitals will be built," noting the construction of hospitals in Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district and in the
Valley of Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM).
Physical and mental health
Additionally, the Peruvian leader stressed that both physical and mental health will be a priority for his government.
"Primary health care will be prioritized to strengthen prevention and bring health services closer to the population. We will improve care capacity at health centers and promote the creation of 5,000 comprehensive community care teams, which will operate under a territorial approach, so that no Peruvian family is left without medical coverage," the top official stated.
The newly-inaugurated President also referred to the health staff, highlighting their dedication in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, in which many doctors and nurses have died.
