08:40 | Lima, Jul. 28.

Most active job seekers in Peru are millennials, accounting for 71% of the total, followed by members of Generation X (24%), the baby boomers (4%), and Generation Z individuals (1%), according to job-search website Aptitus.

Known as digital natives, millennials are expected to make up most of the working population in a few years.

Nowadays, nearly 8 million out of 176 million Latin American millennials live in Peru.

In this context, Aptitus has conducted an analysis to explore the fields they work in, the positions they usually fill, and the average salary they make, compared to other generations.

"Millennials are a generation we need to analyze. Appropriate attention must be given to them so that centennials —their successors— do not catch companies by surprise," Aptitus Manager Joseph Zumaeta stated.

Due to the endless possibilities created by technological advance, more and more youngsters seek or apply for a job, even if they are employed, since their main goal is to get the ideal job that matches their lifestyle and allows them to grow in all aspects.

It must be noted Peru's suitable employment rate —according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI)— declined by 11% (49,400 people) among 14-24 year-olds and by 2.4% (44,500 people) among 25-44 year-olds.

However, the abovementioned rate rose 8.8% (69,400 people) among those aged 45 and above.

The data obtained reveals that 84% of millennials have an average salary equal to or less than S/2,500 (about US$763), 11.7% of them earn from S/2,501 (US$763.4) to S/5,000 (US$1,526), and the remaining 4.3% are paid S/5,001 (about US$1,525.5) or more.

It must be noted 43.2% of them hold positions as analysts, executives or assistants. Likewise, 25.8% work as technicians or in operational positions, 12.7% as heads and supervisors, and 18.3% as trainees.

The fields millennials work in include trade, administration and general services, engineering, production and operations, accounting and finance, as well as marketing and communications.
