Lima 2019 President: Organization of Games fulfilled commitment to Peru

00:46 | Lima, Aug. 10.

Lima 2019 Organizing Committee (COPAL) President Carlos Neuhaus has praised the impeccable organization of the Pan American Games, the largest multi-sport event in the Americas, in terms of sporting facilities, safety, and public attendance.

His remarks were made while visiting the Punta Rocas High-Performance Surfing Center (CAR).

Neuhaus referred to the Punta Rocas complex, the venue of numerous surf competitions, which also witnessed six medals for Peru.

"CAR is an effort that started in 2013. We worked and invested in surfing for these Pan American Games, and the satisfaction of seeing athletes secure medals was incredible," he remarked.

"Even though work started with some difficulties, we got everything set for this sporting event."

He also commented on the finished and future works at the complex.

"It (the complex) is aimed at boosting the sport. Waves are big here and the location is strategic. It includes a pool for apnea training, which is the ability to hold one's breathe under the water."

"A gym will be provided, as well as rooms to accommodate athletes coming from provinces and overseas," he added.

On the other hand, Neuhaus referred to the organization's ability to make Lima 2019 a resounding success.

"We made an effort to fulfill a commitment we made to Peru, and we did it," he concluded.
