SdF Energia to invest US$18 million in new Piura plant

07:32 | Lima, Apr. 22 (ANDINA).

Sudamericana de Fibras (SdF) Energia will invest 18 million U.S. dollars in the construction of a thermal power plant in the northern Peruvian province of Paita in Piura region, the company’s general manager Enrique Gubbins said Tuesday.

According to Gubbins, the plant will contribute 30 megawatts to the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) and will be designed to have two simple cycle turbines and a combined cycle turbine.

Gubbins added that the company has not customers yet to directly sell the electricity produced in the north of Peru, but the company will sell it to the SEIN.

"The supply of natural gas for the plant in Paita will be in charge of Olympic and that is already guaranteed because it is a company of the group, which has already gas reserves and a pipeline that goes to Paita," he said.

Gubbins stated that the plant will begin operations between October and November this year, after the implementation of the first turbine of 30 MW.

On Tuesday, SdF Energia officially launched the commercial operations of its cogeneration plant in Peru, which produces 30 MW of electricity, of which 50 percent goes to two customers (SdF acrylic fibers factory and a mining company) while the rest to the SEIN.

Gubbins said that the company invested 23 million dollars in the cogeneration plant, which consumes 8,000 cubic meters of natural gas per hour and which means a saving of almost four million dollars in energy consumption for its fibers factory.
