In a communiqué shared via social media on Saturday evening, Peru emphasized that every electoral process must be guided by the principles of universality, freedom, equality, and transparency.
Similarly, it expressed deep concern about circumstances that threaten its integrity and transparency.
"In this context, Peru calls on the Government and electoral authorities of Venezuela to fully comply with the Barbados Agreements, ensuring that the electoral process adheres to the highest international standards," the Peruvian government agency stated.
"This includes safeguarding Venezuelans' right to vote and respecting democratic principles, as well as the human rights and essential liberties of all Venezuelans," it added.
The communiqué emphasized that it is imperative and immediate to stop all threats, harassment, repression, and arbitrary detentions.
"Lastly, once again, it reiterates its call to ensure a truly democratic and transparent election," the document concluded.
