Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi affirmed that
her trip to the United States has enabled her to present updated information on the political and social situation in Peru to the U.S. media, private sector, and political actors.
"This trip has allowed us to present updated information on the political and social situation in Peru to the U.S. Government, Congress, the private sector, and the media, as well as to reaffirm our full commitment to human rights and the democratic solution proposed by the Madam President (Dina Boluarte) to face this crisis," Gervasi said in remarks to Canal N on Wednesday.
The Cabinet member affirmed that the government's position, which seeks to clarify the causes of the deaths that occurred during the protests, has also been reaffirmed.
The diplomat added it was reiterated that cooperation is highly important —"both for Peru and for the United States."
"We have received a commitment from the Government of the United States to explain the importance of maintaining this assistance for Peru to (the U.S.) Congress," she said.
"We are in the process of determining who their replacements will be. A decision on the matter has not yet been made, but we are in the process, and we will have news on that matter soon," she concluded.
