Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Elizabeth Galdo indicated that Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies are showing considerable interest in investing in Peru.

"We have APEC as another significant milestone this year, and the Presidential Summit will be held in November. I have had the opportunity to lead two ministerial summits: one on foreign trade in the city of Arequipa (in May) and another related to tourism in Cusco (in June)," Galdo said in remarks to Andina News Agency on August 12.

"At both forums, there is significant interest from the 21 APEC economies in continuing to invest in our country. Sometimes we, Peruvians, may not see it, but it (Peru) is viewed with great enthusiasm from abroad," she added.

Minister Galdo said that hosting APEC meetings in Peru this year is serving to consolidate our country's image.

"Word of mouth is also very important; moreover, Machu Picchu received an award this year as the Best Tourist Destination in South America," she added.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.

Between 2000 and 2023, Peru's trade with APEC member economies grew by an average of 10% annually. Last year alone, APEC accounted for 67% of Peru's trade with the world.
