Chinese Embassy in Peru welcomes agreement on purchase of COVID-19 vaccines

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Lima on Thursday welcomed the agreement for the purchase of a first batch of COVID-19 vaccines, reached by the Government of Peru and the Chinese laboratory Sinopharm.

Written on Twitter, the announcement comes one day after President Francisco Sagasti announced the purchase of 38 million doses —the first shipment of which will arrive in the South American country this January.

"We welcome the agreement to purchase the first batch of one million vaccines against COVID-19 reached between the Government of Peru and Sinopharm," the Chinese Embassy stressed.

The diplomatic mission added "we are convinced that these vaccines will make important contributions to the protection of lives and health of Peruvian men and women."

"China will continue to join and support Peru in its fight against the pandemic," it concluded.
