China: Peru took necessary, effective measures to confront COVID-19

08:51 | Lima, Apr. 2.

Peru has adopted "very necessary and effective measures" to face the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the South American country Liang Yu has affirmed.

"The Government of Peru has taken much-needed and effective measures to lower the mobility of the society as a whole, and these are precisely the measures that China adopted," he told TV Peru channel.

The diplomat recalled that —on the occasion of the Chinese New Year— "we pressed the pause button for the entire Chinese society of 1.4 billion inhabitants."

"What is done here is very effective and necessary. According to our experience, in order to reduce growth to zero, it is important to put a greater emphasis on the search for contacts (sick citizens) as well as to work on and handle the confirmed infections," he explained.

That means separating the confirmed patients from society as soon as possible and not keeping them among the healthy people. "It is a very important job," he stressed.

Liang Yu said that the combination of rapid and molecular tests was used in his country to obtain more accurate diagnoses.

"This measure is being adopted here," he highlighted.
