AmCham optimistic about President Castillo's call for investment in Peru

09:00 | Lima, Sep. 22.

The American Chamber of Commerce of Peru (AmCham Peru) Executive Director Aldo R. Defilippi affirmed that entrepreneurs will be willing to invest in Peru as long as the country provides clear and stable rules of the game.

In this sense, Defilippi welcomed the statements made by the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo in Washington D.C. last Monday, affirming that his Government provides the legal certainty and guarantees that investors need.

In remarks to RPP radio and TV station, he expressed optimism over the statements by the Head of State, and stressed the importance of spreading this thinking throughout the Government, so that it translates into concrete actions in favor of investors.

"I think that the international community will want to invest in Peru as long as legal certainty, security of contracts, and respect for rules can be established," the executive director stated.

"I believe in President Castillo, and I hope that all these offers (…) will be implemented and —above all— that the other segments of the Government, the other ministers who were not present in the meeting, will embrace this offer (…) of clear, stable rules and respect for contracts," he added.

Defilippi called for an end to everything that may cause confusion, instability, or uncertainty in investors' confidence, including the proposal of a Constituent Assembly to change the Constitution.

In this sense, he remarked that, in the meeting between President Castillo and entrepreneurs —held on Monday in the United States— Economy-Finance Minister Pedro Francke claimed that the Constituent Assembly was not in the Government's agenda.

"The international community is willing to continue investing in Peru but, evidently, it wants to see that these signs are clear, that this type of confusions will be resolved, and I have noticed a unanimous desire to close gaps, to improve health care, to better education," the head of AmCham Peru pointed out.

According to the executive, the American Chamber of Commerce of Peru is made up of 5,000 members, who represent 580 companies, mostly US-based ones.
