2015 Lima Half-marathon gathers over 8,000 participants

Over 8,000 athletes, who had come from several cities of the country, participated in the 106th edition of the 2015 Lima Half marathon on Sunday.
The event, organized by the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, comprised the 10 and 21 kilometer long races.
In this edition, the first long-distance inline skates race in the country was included.

"Events as this are very important because these promote sport and sport promotes happiness, besides keeping violence, illnesses and drugs away. That is why encouraging and promoting these types of practices is something very positive," the Mayor of the city Luis Castañeda stated. The burgomaster emphasized the presence of hundreds of competitors from distinct parts of the country.

"We have seen participants from Puno, Huancavelica, Cerro de Pasco and Huancayo, which is extremely interesting," he pointed out.

The traditional race’s starting line was located at Lima Main Square. Athletes ran through districts such as Cercado de Lima, Jesus Maria, Lince, San Isidro and Miraflores to arrive at the Magic Water Tour in Park of the Reserve.

Winners

Runner Walter Nina claimed the first spot (29:27:00) in the men's 10 kilometer-category. Wilma Arizapana ended first in the women's category.

In the 21 kilometers race, Huancayo-born athlete Christian Pacheco finished with a time of 01:03:40 followed by while Jordan Ccope 01:05:42.

It must be noted the said running event is the second most ancient after the Boston marathon.
