APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Working Group Chairman, Ambassador Carlos Chavez-Taffur on Sunday reported that 19 Asia-Pacific leaders have confirmed their attendance at the meeting held this week in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

"We have 19 leaders already confirmed. We are very pleased with this outcome and fully prepared to welcome them," the diplomat stated in an interview with Andina News Agency on Sunday.

Similarly, the chairman confirmed that around 5,000 delegates and 1,300 executives will gather in Lima during the Economic Leaders' Week, the peak event of the APEC Peru 2024 host year.

"We expect almost 5,000 delegates, ranging from ministers to technical delegates," he noted.

Regarding media coverage, the official pointed out that 2,500 journalists have signed up, a similar number to that of the 2016 APEC forum, also hosted by Peru.

As part of the Economic Leaders' Week, to be held from November 9 to 16, Chavez-Taffur noted that Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministers will gather on Thursday, culminating in the APEC Economic Leaders' meeting.

The diplomat stated that, parallel to Leaders' Week, a business summit is being held, organized by the Peruvian Foreign Trade Society (ComexPeru).

"As you know, APEC has three segments: the official, the private segment—handled in Peru by the Peruvian Foreign Trade Society (ComexPeru)—and the academic segment," he noted.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
