The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday reaffirmed her firm decision and commitment to protect the lives of all Peruvians, in the face of the scourge of citizen insecurity affecting some parts of Peru.

The statement was made during her participation in the inauguration of the National Citizen Security Council's (Conasec) third ordinary session in the city of Chiclayo, northern Peru.

"Today in this city, we reaffirm our firm decision and commitment to protect the lives and integrity of Peruvians. To this noble end, we work with our mayors and governors, the Peruvian National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces, the private sector, and the general population," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

In this regard, the Head of State expressed her conviction that "with the unity of all Peruvians, we will win a war that we did not start, but that we will end it for the tranquility of all our compatriots."

"That is why this third ordinary session of Conasec is important, where we will address issues of utmost importance to firmly confront crime and delinquency, strengthen strategies against organized crime, and support each action of our police," she stated.

Moreover, the president underscored that thanks to Conasec, the transfer of S/25 million (about US$6.72 million) was arranged for the PNP, in order to support the actions of the Special Group Against Organized Crime (Grecco).

Agreements were also signed with various regional governments for the construction of police stations and crime labs.

"Citizen security as a fundamental right encourages us to never stop. Yesterday, Operation Safe Dawn resulted in 150 arrests, 31 wanted individuals, and the deactivation of three organized gangs," Mrs. Boluarte pointed out.

"We say to criminals: we are not afraid of them, neither of them nor of their operators; here we stand firm and strong; we will confront them; we are one step ahead and we will defeat them. It is time for us all to unite, as a single fist that loves our homeland and will defeat this scourge that is organized crime," she added.
