Peru's FA Min Schialer meets with US Secretary of State Blinken

09:00 | New York (U.S.), Sep. 27.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer met with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken to whom he reiterated Peru's concern about the situation in Venezuela.

Ambassador Schialer on Thursday indicated that Peru early expressed its condemnation of the irregularities that had occurred before, during, and after the past Venezuelan electoral process.

The government official said that these irregularities, along with the systematic refusal to present the electoral records, prevent Peru from recognizing the official results of the Venezuelan elections.

Likewise, the Cabinet member stated that Peru laments the decision of Venezuelan authorities to break diplomatic relations with our country.

Similarly, the diplomat reaffirmed Peru's unwavering commitment to promote and protect democracy and care for our compatriots in Venezuela.

Within this framework, Peru signed the joint statement issued by 31 countries on the urgent situation in Venezuela.

Before meeting with Secretary Blinken, Minister Schialer presented Peru's greetings to U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the reception hosted by them, within the framework of the
High-Level Week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
