Production of the manufacturing sector grew by 4.7% in March this year compared to the same month in 2021, driven by the dynamism of non-primary manufacturing and the rise in industrial exports,
Production Minister Jorge Luis Meadow reported on Monday.
"This positive result is even 5.3% higher than that of March 2019, when the COVID-19 pandemic had not yet occurred," he stressed.
In the case of non-primary manufacturing, it is worth noting the increase in the manufacture of intermediate goods such as metallic structures (68.7%), chemical products (54.7%), paints and varnishes (37%), as well as cement, lime and plaster (14.2%), which were boosted by higher demand in the construction sector.
Capital goods
The production of capital goods and consumer goods also stood out, including clothing (21%), malted and malt beverages (61.3%), and bakery (17.2%), due to greater local and external demand.
"The result of last March responds to positive figures for industrial exports and the dynamism of non-primary manufacturing", the head of the sector was quoted as saying.
Between January and March 2022, manufacturing increased by 1.9% compared to the same quarter in 2021, due to the recovery of domestic demand and the increase in industrial exports.
In this period, non-primary manufacturing showed a positive performance (5.5%) once again, driven by the bakery industry, clothing, structural metal products, as well as cement, lime and plaster.
