Within the framework of the actions taken to revive the tourism industry, which are led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with Deputy Tourism Minister Julia Alvarez, a working meeting has been held with
Deputy Regional Director for the Americas at the World Tourism Organization (WTO) Alejandro Varela.
The meeting also featured
Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) Executive-President Amora Carbajal, Cenfotur Academic Training Director Orlando Quispe, Economic Promotion General Director Jaime Cacho-Sousa, as well as officials from the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Peru in Spain.
The meeting addressed —in detail— the possibilities offered by the various technical assistance programs of the WTO.
In this regard, the WTO representative stressed the importance of the "Weaving the Recovery" program, which is aimed at strengthening the capacities of female artisans from indigenous communities.
Varela highlighted the WTO's interest in developing —in coordination with Peruvian entities concerned— a roadmap for joint projects reflecting the priorities of the tourism sector in our country.
The meeting also served to provide the WTO with information on the areas of greatest interest in terms of cooperation.
In this regard, Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) officials stressed the interest of said sector in receiving technical support from the WTO to develop projects aimed at strengthening the development of sustainable tourism with a social-based component, include crafts in the main tourist circuits, and increase the value of regional gastronomy.
For her part, PromPeru Executive-President Amora Carbajal highlighted her portfolio's interest in receiving technical cooperation from the WTO in terms of digitalization, the promotion of Pisco tourist circuits, as well as projects for the empowerment of women and for the recovery of the national heritage.
