Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), in partnership with Trade Facilitation Office (TFO) Canada, led the participation of 10 exporters —mostly women— of organic and healthy foods at SIAL Canada 2022, the largest food innovation trade show in North America.

Held on April 20-22 in Montreal, SIAL Canada 2022 brought together more than 1,200 national and international exhibitors from 50 countries, hosting over 25,000 buyers from Canada, the United States, and 60 other countries.

At the fair, the 10 Peruvian exporters held 172 meetings, which will generate business opportunities worth US$1.8 million in the next 12 months.

The aforementioned group was joined by 10 exporting SMEs, which showcased products from regions such as Cusco (Maras salt), Arequipa and Tacna (olives), as well as Amazonas and Junin (specialty coffee), whose exportable supply made it possible for them to hold 94 meetings, which are expected to generate around US$3.1 million in sales.

In total, 266 meetings were held, creating business opportunities worth nearly US$4.9 million for the following 12 months.

During the fair, Peruvian exhibitors showcased superfoods such as maca, quinoa, cacao, yacon, ginger, vegetable proteins, beans, as well as specialty coffees, chocolate bars, olives, nuts, organic sugar, and frozen foods.

It should be pointed out that Peruvian products were displayed under the umbrella of the Super Foods Peru brand.

The Peruvian mission was set up within the framework of Women in Trade for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth —a project funded through Global Affairs Canada, to increase shipments made by SMEs, particularly those led by women, seeking to address the main limitations faced by women entrepreneurs, including the resources and networks so as to gain access to global commercial markets.
