CAF finances water and sanitation projects in Peru

19:41 | Lima, May. 11.

The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) said that it is benefiting 400,000 Peruvians with the funding of projects, thus increasing the coverage and quality of drinking water and sanitation services in Lima's districts of San Juan de Miraflores, Villa Maria del Triunfo, and Villa El Salvador.

CAF's Corporate Vice-President of Strategic Programming Christian Asinelli stated that projects like these are the purpose and reason for being of development banks.

Asinelli's remarks came as he toured "Nueva Rinconada," the largest project in Sedapal's portfolio of initiatives, which has received up to US$ 51.5 million in funding from CAF.

"That is why we support Sedapal in bringing water and sanitation to more Peruvians, promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and providing new opportunities to improve the country's competitiveness," he said.

The CAF delegation, led by Christian Asinelli, also met with Development-Social Inclusion Minister Dina Boluarte, Economy-Finance Minister Oscar Graham, and Sedapal Chairman Augusto Eguiguren.

The aim of the meeting was to strengthen ties and identify initiatives they can work on together, as has been the case since CAF's inception in 1970 and as was evidenced during the pandemic with rapid disbursement loans totaling more than US$470 million.

Another initiative supported by CAF in Peru includes the first stage of the Road Infrastructure Program for Regional Competitiveness.

This first stage envisages the improvement of 4,202 Km, as well as the preservation and operation of 4,951 km distributed across 18 road corridors to improve the provision of transport and logistics infrastructure and services in regions with export potential and in border areas, through a US$233.3 million loan.
