The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, within the framework of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum meetings currently underway in Lima.

The bilateral gathering took place on the same day as the APEC CEO Summit.

"In honor of our more than 60 years of diplomatic relations, the leader of the Peruvian economy, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, holds a meeting with the leader of the Australian economy, Anthony Albanese," a post on the X platform stated on Thursday,

Upon his arrival in Lima on Wednesday to participate in APEC Leaders' Week, Mr. Albanese stated that his goal will be to advocate for "free and fair trade," in the context of possible new tariffs following President-elect Donald Trump's return to the White House.

"We’re a trading nation. One in four of Australia's jobs is trade-dependent. That will be a focus with the meetings over the coming days," he stated, according to a transcript sent on Thursday by the Prime Minister's Office.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
