The Peruvian Government supports transport operators and has ordered to intensify operations in order to combat crime and extortion affecting this sector, President Dina Boluarte stated on Tuesday.

"We have decided to intensify operations in order to combat crime, especially extortion (cases) affecting unions and workers in the transportation sector in Lima and Callao," Mrs. Boluarte stated during the delivery of personal protective equipment (PPE) for firefighters. The event was held in Lima.

The Head of State specified that the Peruvian National Police (PNP) has dismantled dangerous gangs and is following the trail of others that have already been fully identified.

"We tell them that we are breathing down their necks; we will soon catch you," she said.

In coordination with the Interior Ministry, she explained, police presence has also been increased, and patrols will be carried out in strategic areas of the Peruvian capital.

"Dear transport operators, our Government stands with you, and we comply with the agreements we reach; we are a Government that keeps its promises, and this commitment to fight crime and extortion head-on will not be the exception," she noted.

"My dear Police agents, dear compatriots, let us be one fist against crime and delinquency; let us be one heart, united to meet our people's needs," she added.
