The Government of Peru on Wednesday expressed deep concern about the start of Israeli military operations in the city of Rafah, Gaza Strip, where more than a million Palestinians —mainly women and children— have been displaced in search of refuge.

This announcement was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via social media.

"After seven months have passed since the current cycle of violence began, Peru reiterates its call for the unconditional release of hostages and for a ceasefire to halt the loss of human lives and ensure unrestricted access to humanitarian aid for Gaza," the communiqué reads.

The government agency indicated that "committed to the search for peace and consistent with its principled position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Government of Peru expresses its support for initiatives aimed at finding a long-term political solution."

It must be "based on the existence of two States, Palestine and Israel, coexisting peacefully within recognized and secure borders, in accordance with international law and resolutions issued by the United Nations."
