Non-traditional exports totaled US$1.722 billion in August, a 15.8% growth compared to August 2023, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported on Friday.

This increase was due to higher prices of non-traditional agricultural and fishery products, as well as to a rise in the volumes of shipped non-metallic mining, metallurgical, textile, and chemical products.

According to the BCR, higher sales of non-traditional products to most of Peru's main destinations, except China, were registered last August.

"The rise in prices of agricultural export products explained the increase in sales to Latin America, Asia, the European Union, and the United States," it pointed out.

In the case of the United States, higher shipments of products from the textile and metallurgy sectors were also reported.

So far this year, non-traditional exports have accumulated US$12.002 billion, which represents a 5.1% growth compared to the same period in 2023.

Textiles

Foreign sales of non-traditional textile products totaled US$138 million in August 2024, 7% higher compared to the same month in 2023.

For the fifth consecutive month, the exported volume reported growth (8.8% year-on-year) due to higher shipments of garments to the United States (main market), Brazil (mainly cotton polo shirts), and Colombia (textile fabrics).
