Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer stressed the importance of countries that make up the United Nations honoring their obligations under international law.

The government official participated in the ceremony commemorating the 79th anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter.

Within this framework, the ambassador underscored the importance of the organization at a time when the largest number of violent conflicts have been taking place since World War II.

"It is crucial that Member States comply with their obligations under international law," he expressed.

In this regard, the minister highlighted what was stated in this regard by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

"If countries were to comply with the obligations set out in the Charter, every person would be guaranteed respect for their right to a life of peace and dignity," he indicated.

Mutual contribution

Similarly, the ambassador expressed his willingness to continue working together and maximize the positive impact of the cooperation provided by this international organization.

In this regard, the diplomat mentioned the contribution of the United Nations System to Peru in achieving the goals of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2022-2026, as well as assistance in dealing with emergencies, such as that received following the oil spill in Ventanilla district and in the aftermath of Cyclone Yaku.

He emphasized that Peru supports the work of the United Nations for peace and international security, the improvement of living conditions worldwide, the defense of fundamental rights, the promotion and protection of the most vulnerable, the protection of the environment, and the elimination of hunger.
