APEC 2024 to foster continued economic and social development in Peru

08:09 | Lima, Nov. 1.

APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Working Group Chairman, Carlos Chavez-Taffur, stated that the upcoming forum in our country represents an important opportunity to continue fostering the nation's economic and social development.

A few days before the start of APEC Economic Leaders' Week, the ambassador published an opinion column in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

He underscored that the highest representatives of the 21 member economies will be in Peru to address the challenges and opportunities facing the region.

The diplomat stressed that Peru has experienced significant growth in international trade since joining the forum, with hundreds of Peruvian companies and SMEs successfully integrating into global value chains, thanks in part to the 14 free trade agreements (FTAs) signed with various economies that comprise the bloc.

"APEC is the only elite space to which our country belongs, allowing it to interact directly with the most relevant economies on the world stage," Chavez-Taffur reminded readers.

In this regard, he indicated that the APEC Peru 2024 Working Group has been coordinating with various sectors of the State, local governments, guilds, and other societal actors to ensure that every detail is meticulously addressed, thus offering the 8,000 delegates who will be present a memorable experience that enhances our country's image.

The ambassador specified that among the topics to be included in this multilateral event's agenda are trade and investment for inclusive and interconnected growth; innovation and digitalization to foster the transition to a formal and global economy; and sustainable growth for resilient development.

Moreover, Chavez-Taffur stated that a comprehensive security plan featuring high global standards has been designed to ensure that activities proceed without any problems, both for those attending the event and for the general public.

He also reminded readers that Peru had previously hosted similar events, and the security had been impeccable.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
