on Wednesday stated that the government will ensure that the Chinchero International Airport, in Peru's southern Cusco region, is built with the highest quality and efficiency, without unnecessary delays or acts of corruption.
"Chinchero will be the second-largest airport in Peru and receive more than 7 million passengers a year, a figure that could reach up to 12 million as demand increases. With this, we will boost domestic and international tourism, as well as the local economy," she stated.
According to Mrs. Boluarte, more than 5,000 Peruvians will also benefit from direct jobs and over one million will benefit from the development of tourism, trade, and transportation.
The Head of State noted that efforts are focused on completing the passenger terminal and the perimeter fence of the airport, ensuring that these works are completed within the established deadlines.
The president announced that the new airport's runway and control tower will be the subject to a new tender process set to begin in 2025.
"We are taking a significant step toward the goal of having a modern, efficient, and strategic air terminal, which will serve both you and our homeland, with transparency, integrity, commitment, and the assurance that we are forging a future for Peru," she expressed.
The top official underscored that this project will also be the driving force behind boosting connectivity, socioeconomic development, and creating opportunities for more Peruvians.
"Its construction is a priority for our government. It has not been easy to reach the signing of this addendum; we have had several meetings and conversations, but that is part of our efforts; what we should be pleased about is that this work is brought to fruition through the signing of the addendum," she stated.
President Boluarte underscored the role of the communities surrounding the airport.
The top official announced that complementary road projects are being developed to strengthen their connectivity. She added that a social contribution will be provided for the development of their own projects.
Public works for Cusco
The Head of State said Cusco region's initial budget for 2025 has been increased by 15% compared to that of 2023, allowing for more public works to be carried out for the population's benefit.
"So far this year, we have invested over S/746 million (above US$198 million) in public works such as the long-awaited Antonio Lorena Hospital, the Santa Maria-Santa Teresa Highway, the Machu Picchu Hydroelectric Bridge, the strengthening of San Antonio Abad University services, among others," she detailed.
This event was attended by Cabinet Chief Gustavo Adrianzen, Transportation-Communications Minister Raul Perez Reyes, and Cusco Governor Werner Salcedo.
