Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Elizabeth Galdo underscored that Peru's agricultural exports reached US$2.481 billion during the first quarter this year —a figure that represents a 10.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Thus, shipments of blueberries, whose exports have doubled; cacao and derivatives (+82.7%); limes plus derivatives (+85.6%) stood out.

Besides, the main agro-exporting regions are Ica (grapes, blueberries, and asparagus), with US$666 million; La Libertad (blueberries, avocado, and asparagus), with US$386 million; and Piura (grapes, mangos, and limes), with US$273 million.

"Peru has positioned itself as one of the main world suppliers of excellent quality fruit," the Cabinet member highlighted.

In 2023, farming exports amounted to US$10.484 billion, which represented a 4.4% rise compared to the previous year. Within this framework, agro-exports accounted for 16% of total exports.

In 2023, Peru was ranked as the ninth-largest world fruit exporter, with sales worth US$5.673 billion.

In Latin America, Peru is the third-largest fruit exporter -behind Mexico and Chile.

Within this framework, it is important to note that our country is the world's leading exporter of grapes, blueberries, (fresh and canned) asparagus, and quinoa.

It is also considered the second-largest exporter of avocados, ginger, and Brazil nuts -after Mexico, China, and Bolivia, respectively.

Similarly, it is the third world exporter of canned hearts of palm -after Ecuador and Bolivia.

Last year, 2,743 exporters of Peruvian agricultural goods were registered, offering a total of 655 products to 141 markets. Of this total, 72% were micro, small, or medium-sized enterprises.

Peruvian exports of goods reached a record high in 2023, totaling US$64.564 billion, a 1.4% growth compared to the previous year.

The sectors that contributed the most to this growth were mining and agro-exports, both of which reached record levels.
