announced that the Executive Branch has declared national mourning over Pope Francis' passing, and has ordered that a high-level Peruvian delegation take part in the Supreme Pontiff's funeral.
"In light of this unfortunate event, this afternoon I informed the Apostolic Nuncio that the Executive Branch has declared national mourning. In the same way, I have ordered a high-level delegation to participate in the Supreme Pontiff's funeral," Mrs. Boluarte stated in an address to the nation on Monday evening.
The Head of State emphasized that Peru joins in a profound sense of mourning and reflection to pay tribute to the memory of a humble and courageous shepherd, whose legacy of love, justice, and unity will remain forever in our hearts.
The top official mentioned that the Holy Father taught us that true love knows no barriers, that faith is lived through actions, and that the dignity of every human being must be the center of every society.
"May those of us who hold public office find in his example a guide to serve with humility, justice, and unity," she emphasized.
The President noted that His Holiness was always clear in his message of walking the path of reconciliation, integration, unity, and peace.
In that regard, she stated that this day of mourning is also a moment of commitment to the poorest, the forgotten, and those still waiting for justice.
"May Pope Francis' legacy inspire us to keep striving with faith, love for others, and hope —and above all, in national unity and peace. May his teachings drive us to build a more humane, inclusive, and caring country," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.
"And may his voice, always on the side of the humble, accompany us every step toward a future guided by the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. May the peace and unity he sowed in the world blossom today in each of us," she added.
