Nearly 370,000 hectares of marine-coastal ecosystems in the province of Nasca, located in the Ica region, will be conserved with environmental standards starting this year, thanks to the initiative of the provincial municipality and with the technical support of the Ministry of the Environment (Minam), it was reported.

This was agreed at the latest meeting of the Local Management Committee for the Integrated Management of the Marine-Coastal Zone, held in coordination with the district municipalities of Marcona and Changuillo, where the 2025 Action Plan was approved.

The meeting, held on April 16, allowed for joint efforts with representatives from the public and private sectors to coordinate actions aimed at the conservation of beaches, hills, and their biodiversity, as well as the promotion of the responsible use of hydrobiological and landscape resources.

Among the proposed initiatives, the promotion of experiential tourism linked to artisanal fishing stood out.

The technical team of the General Directorate of Territorial Planning and Integrated Management of Natural Resources of Minam supported the progress achieved in the 2024 Integrated Management Plan of the Marine-Coastal Zone of Nasca and validated the 2025 Action Plan.

The specialists also met with the mayor of Marcona, Joel Rosales, who reaffirmed his commitment to environmental actions in his district and expressed his interest in having his city be the host of the 9th National Seminar on the Integrated Management of Marine-Coastal Zones, an event that will bring together authorities and representatives from all departments of the Peruvian coast.

The Integrated Management of Marine-Coastal Zones promotes participatory governance, articulating various territorial actors to foster the conservation and sustainable use of coastal ecosystems.

The aim is to ensure a balance between socioeconomic development and the protection of the natural environment for the benefit of the citizenry.
